Give your July 4th cookout a special homemade touch by serving this Old-Fashioned Iced Tea. Iced tea is easy to prepare, more economical than buying soda, juice and other flavored drinks, and deliciously refreshing to drink on a hot summer day.
4 cups hot water
6 tea bags
1/2-1 cup sugar (depending on how sweet you like your tea)
4 cups cold water
1 lemon, sliced
1. In a sauce pan, bring 4 cups of water to a boil. Remove from heat. Add tea bags. Allow the tea to steep for 10 minutes.
2. Remove the tea bags. Stir in the sugar until dissolved. Cool.
3. In a pitcher, mix the above tea with 4 cups of cold water.
4. Just before serving, add ice cubes and lemon slices to the pitcher. Alternatively, place ice cubes and 1 lemon slice in 6 tall glasses, and then fill with the iced tea.
Note: If you leave the tea bags to seep for more than 10 minutes, the tea will be bitter.
Variation: Use herbal tea instead of regular tea bags.
